Whenever I come back to PA to visit my family, my mom and I go out for tea. Our most recent spot was SpecialTea. We tend to stick to the traditional full English afternoon tea: tea sandwiches, a pot of tea, scones with clotted cream or lemon curd & mini pastries. The sandwiches were tasty and light with just the right amount of filling. The scones were fresh and really flavorful. The tea was just about perfect and the pastries/chocolates were a wonderful way to end our lunch. The decor is light and sunny. Before you enter the main dining room, there is a tiny shop where you can buy your own jar of clotted cream or lemon curd. They also sell their homemade scones and you'd be a fool to pass one up. If you are new to tea or just want to try something different, you will enjoy this spot.

This is such a cute little tea room - a perfect place to enjoy an afternoon tea with the girls, or maybe a mother-daughter excursion. Run by two sisters, they offer an incredible selection of teas along with a small menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Those scones...baked fresh daily and quite rich, they are delicious to the point of being unable to stop yourself from breaking off another bite! And paired with either lemon curd, butter (which you don't need considering the amount that must be in the batter), preserves or Devonshire cream they are to die for! I especially love their plain buttermilk scones. Even better, they cater and throw parties! I went to a baby shower that was a High Tea, featuring their scones! Sundays their space is reserved for parties, but the rest of the week you can drop in for soothing tea and scrumptious scones. They also have a shop that offers tea related items, such as tea pots, books, gourmet food and, of course, tea!

Perfect English afternoon tea (except for that time thing! they close at 3) Never would have found this place without a friend recommending it. Dropped in for a late lunch with a girlfriend and both decided on afternoon tea. Delightful food, charming setting and good service. This will be a regular stop!

Went in on Saturday for a Mom daughter day after reading all the great reviews, and it was worth it. Really cute small place. Love the beautiful tea pots and cups. Love the old fashion style . Sugar cubes and tea spoons. Takes you back in time. We got the afternoon tea. Really delicious tea . I recommend Early Grey Créme.. Wonderful. The scones and little finger sandwiches were good as well. The Lemon Curd they serve with the scones is awesome. All in all.. Really nice place to get away , chat, have a light lunch . Def going back

LOVE getting the afternoon tea special when I'm visiting the area. Also, best scones I've ever had-- nowhere else compares.

This place is near perfect. Food is amazing, servers are super nice, and the environment is clean and attractive but without feeling stifling. Been going here since I was a kid, and now as an adult I can't get enough!!!! I go every time I am in the area. What a fantastic place. Haven't been disappointed once~

Specialtea holds a special place in my moms heart,so it was the perfect venue for my aunts 60th birthday celebration this past Saturday. My mom comes here so frequently that they know her tea and sandwich order before she even sits down. I had been here once before for a mothers day tea with my mom and we opted for afternoon tea. Our table for 10 was set up beautifully all with matching cups, saucers and mini tea spoons. They offer various loose teas so there is something for everyone. As a group we each did individual pots (2.00) of our choice of tea and most people opted for one of their famous sandwiches on a croissant(5.00-6.00) My mom raves about the chicken salad sandwich so i opted for the tuna on a bed of lettuce. My only gripe is that it was literally one piece of romaine and one scoop of tuna salad. I would have preferred more lettuce and s little bit more tuna , but the flavor was there and you could tell they make it fresh daily. Service is always spot on and everyone that works here is super sweet. Afternoon tea is probably the best bet to go its charged per person and there are plenty of mini sandwich options and scones to chose from. I would offer this place to anyone looking for a quiet afternoon with gal pals, it also makes a great venue for showers, birthdays and really any days when you want to hold your pinky up while sipping tea.

What a perfect little tea room! My sis and I were jonesing for a true tea, and we stumbled across this place one Saturday afternoon. The place was hopping! We were greeted, escorted to a cute table, and promptly served a perfect afternoon tea. Two pots of tea, scones with jam/curd, and a tray of sandwiches and goodies. All delish! The teapots and teacups were dainty and delightful! And, the basked of special/seasonal teas were plenty! We had a unique earl grey blend and a christmas blend. Remembering them makes my mouth water. The sandwiches were exactly what you need/expect them to be: small, sweet white bread (that you ate as a kid but would NEVER buy as an adult), with crusts cut off. And, the scones! Not flaky. Not too crumbly. Perfect with the strawberry jam and lemon curd. Yes, both! Who says I can't?!? :) The girls serving the tea were attentive and ever-ready to refill our teapots. I love it when a tea house isn't stingy with the tea! It was all so good that both my sis and I bought some tea home with us. Off to make a cup o' tea now! Cheerio!

I remember going to this tea room when I was in middle school and high school, but after moving away from Philly, I hadn't been back in a few years. I finally made it back on Saturday, and I'm glad that not much has changed!! The tea room is in Olde Ridge Village. When you walk in, they have a shop where you can buy things like loose tea, child tea sets, scone mix, and all things tea-related. Not a huge selection, but it's fun to browse. They also have one or two private rooms that you can rent out for special occasions- on Saturday, a bunch of little girls pulled up in a bright pink limo and headed into the room for a birthday party. I was jealous- my mom never gave me a tea party with a pink limo when I was a little girl :-). The main dining room is small- maybe 10 tables. We called ahead and made reservations at noon, but only a few tables were occupied when we got there. It seemed to get busier over time, though, and when we left, there were only a few tables left. The clientele tends to consist of families and/or older people. It tends to be quiet and relaxing, which is nice. We decided to share the soup of the day- butternut squash ($4), which was served with a small roll and some butter. We also ordered the afternoon tea ($15.50/person), which comes with a pot of tea, tea sandwiches, sweets, and a scone (you can pick raisin or plain). The scone is served with Devonshire Cream, preserves and lemon curd, all of which are absolutely amazing. The soup was literally one of the best butternut squash soups I've ever had- it tasted like it had apple in it. My mom makes a great butternut squash soup, and even she loved it, and started plotting how she could add apples to her soup to replicate it. The afternoon tea hasn't changed at all over the years. There is a large plate on the bottom with tea sandwiches- tuna salad, egg salad, ham & cheese, and cream cheese & cucumber (I'm sure I'm forgetting a flavor). The middle and top plates have some sweeter options- cookies, a small piece of brownie, a chocolate, etc. The tea selection is quite huge, although I always go with my favorite, Countess Grey. They will also give you plenty of extra hot water when you run out. If you're looking for a quaint lunch place, or a place for afternoon tea, this is the place. It's relaxing, fun, tasty, and moderately priced for afternoon tea.

I wanted a place that I could take my grandmom and we could have a pleasant shared experience together and this place was it. Found in the Olde Village Shopping Center right off 202, this quaint tea shop has a room for tea time and another room for private parties along with a tea gift shop. I was a little nervous because I'm not a fan of black teas or green tea but the selection of teas here is huge. They recommend making reservations for tea time because the space but its worth it. I got a blood orange tea that was delicious and my grandmom enjoyed oolong tea. Whats nice is that each person gets a pot of their own choice so everyone is happy. You get tiny little tea sandwiches, scones ( plain or raisin) with lemon curd, strawberry preserves and clotted cream, little cookies and chocolate candies. Its all really good and fun. It was comfortable without being pretentious so I would definitely go back for tea time again.
